The Loudness Wars

i must confess to not knowing about these wars, however i had noticed a drastic reduction in quality in some recent recordings, making it nigh on impossible to distinguish between different instruments. i believe the introduction of digital media has played a huge part in this, everyone wants more and more music on their mp3 players, computers etc and the only way to do this is to condense the files thus reducing the quality. bring back vinyl.

Well, now you know Mayoboy! This is the reason behind what you have noticed.

This is why I listen to the likes of Chris rea and Eric Clapton. It winds me up that I have spent £1000s over the years in order to hear fine details only for artists to do this.

Indeed! I first became aware of this phenomenon about a year or so ago. That's why I now try to get original copies of any CD I want, or if I can the vinyl version!
