Do you think its about time the italian F.A Took decisive action against poor club grounds by banning alot of the grounds. When & if this law is implimented do you think the week to week violence will stop or is is a social issue that cant be stoped in the near future.

Its a social problem, a hooligan doesnt go "oh saftey barriers I guess that means we cant fight here"

If the clubs can't control the crowds, maybe a solution is to limit the crowds to a level where its possible to control. I agree that it is a social problem. And it is destoying football and something has to be done.

When the mighty Bristol City were in the Anglo Scottish Cup in the 1990s I had the pleasure of visiting the city of Pisa, 60 of us great beer, great food, but as for the stadium.
To be honest apart from the main stand the rest of the stadium wouldn't have gone amiss in the days of the Colosseum, no turnstiles, crumbling terracing, dangerous fencing and in a crowd of just over 2,500 (City 250+) we were still getting flares fired at us.
The police just don't seem to care in Italy and just let fans get on with it (although they tried their hardest to stop us getting involved), IMO send over some of the infamous West Midlands Mafia (sorry Police) and they would sort it out in a couple of hours.

what I don't understand is, outside of football, italy is not a nation of violence from what i can tell. America is much much worse with crime.
not to throw my ideals on Italian's judicial system but, i know in the USA, those guys fighting and hurting others spend nights, months and years in prison.
and to those guys who killed the policeman a few months ago, they would have gotten the death penalty here, i think crimes committed in Italy at football matches should be met with harsh prison sentences and maybe even life in prison.

Well you could say italy is a very politicaly unstable country with lots of corruption in almost every area of life, So i think it tends to be peoples ideals ect that tend to cause trouble, & of course when that police man died it was in sicily so il persume the two clubs "fans" involved probily had mafia connections.
As for life in jail & death sentence ect , those laws are in america aw we all know but it dosent solve anything if anything makes it worse

Lots of footbal violence is mainly caused by bad policing.
You will ALWAYS have an element of 'bad' fans that want to just get pissed and fight anyone, there own fans most of the time.
But bad policing has a huge effect on how a footbal crowd reacts, its that simple.
The English and German police have a good understanding on how football fans should be tolerated. Especially the english police, are asked for there opinion ALL over the world.
Unfortunatleyits something we have to deal with.
BUT ! i think watching football is well worth the hassle that comes with it.

haha, i guess its when its there time of the month .... Just like with my mrs' every 3 weeks IS abit like a football riot !!
Maybe its just women who fight in Italy ....?
I cant see it being ONLY every 3 weeks. Football violence week in week out. I mean some of the mentality of some fans is unbelievable.
A few yrs back i went to the Birmingham City v Liverpool game at the Mellenium stadium in Cardiff. And we ha d Swansea fans having running battles with the us and Liverpool fans !!
I couldnt believe it. All it was ,was complete and uttter thuggeray. All the fans that came there from Swansea were there for 1 reason. Violence. Its as simple as that.
We get a bad deal in this country, well, our fans abroad do anyway. I mean, some Turkish fans kill some Leeds fans and nothing happens to the club involved. We hadnt even got to the worldcup and England were warned that if there was any violence, we would be kicked out.
But....then i look at the welsh thugs at the game i mentioned and think, well maybe we are the worst fans...or sorry, have some of the worst fans.
Like ive said, itll never end.
My dad, was a notorious football hooligan in the late 70s early 80s. Thats probably why i dont get involved in the violent side of the game, but just love to watch football, i love the game. Especially when you have players like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Luis figo (or did have)... the way these players play, is incredible football, how anyone could be violent after watching graceful football like that is beyond me.

Well thers was PLENTY od english fans causing trouble at the world cup (watch the under cover BBC docu on google) but i dident see england getting kicked out,?
Fifa will never be able to ban teams from world cup for stuff like that only if it happend inside the ground.
& as for every 3 weeks ya during the summer break maybe ;)

No, England were threatened by FIFA. That -if- England fans caused any major football violence/rioting while the team were in the Worldcup, there was a possibilty that action would be taken against the England squad.
IE: Docked points from there group. Or (and just a very feeble excuse to get rid of us) if any bad violence was started by England fans, we (England team) could possibly be kicked out the tourney.
I actually recall, opposing fans trying to wear England shirts in the Worldcup, and trying to cause trouble to make it look like english fans were causing hassle.
Its all a memory now anyway. Nothing happened.
ps. Shelbourne, are you sure the fans were incited to defend themselves...??
Or maybe they were'nt even england fans at all..??
I heard reports that TV companies were plying fans with free drink...that tells ya everything.
Ok,ok. Why was Liverpool rated the worst fans in the champions lge ? In 4 yrs there was just 25 incidents. There must have been more than that in just ONE italian game . ie ..the man utd game.
Its all just pie in the sky. FIFA and UEFA hate english clubs doing well. Thats why we were banned for yrs from european club games.
Its this simple. If an England club has fan trouble, they are threatened with being kicked out of the comp. When the french side in the last champions lge tourney, threatened to walk off the pitch with 20 mins remaining, and caused koas, why were they not reprimanded ?? Is it because a certain french guy is now UEFA presidant ??? Look at ALL the evidence and it speaks for itself.

No im pretty sure they were england fans, they said to the under cover reporter that they were there to kick thigs off,
Certian Club firms went over in numbers & youth Firms aswell.
It wasent just england either plenty troble makers were they from other countries (fifa do have an anti engllish bias)
The point i was making tough is that Fifa altough they threaten england with points deduction they never will or be able to take points of them for trouble fans cause outside the ffotball arena.
& alot of it is Loads of drink with people younglads and older 1;s aswell just getting a rush of blood to the head & doin stuff they wouldent normaly do come saturday at a footie match.
But ther was plenty of english fans there to cause trouble & when/if england go to The euro's exspect the austrian & Swiss groups there exspecting a fight. & of couse cause there will be a minority of englands fans there to kick it off many alcohol fuel'd will join in.

Anyone that drinks alot, knows that they act differently than when there sober.
But talking to people in a certain way, can make the difference of whether or not that person will just happily move on, or become aggitated.
How would you react if a copper just looked at you with your england t-shirt, and because your abit worse for wear, stormed in smashing you in the face with a batton ?
lol, not very happy, i guess. But if that same copper walked over and had a quiet word, your more than likley to wonder off, or have respect for the way you have been treated, and stop what you was doing. Its as simple as that. Foreign coppers dont know how to handle football fans.
Most trouble starts with football fans being treated like scum, by coppers. Alot of the ppl in Turkey (Leeds game) that were beaten by coppers were actually lawyers and even one was a judge, so it says it all. They just storm in and beat you !
End of.

there should be no trouble,at football matches in an ideal world.
BUT, a hell of alot stems from very poor policing.
Yeh ,ok, if someones gunna kickoff, then theres no stopping it, but even then, with good stewards and understanding coppers, it can be calmly resolved.
In my experience, coppers (under-trained) aggrevaite the situation.
Il never condone violence, but i can understand it.
From a fans point of view.
