Buffon deserved to win this award as he is a brilliant goalkeeper. For me Henry should have received the award, scoring and creating goals is the hardest thing to produce in the game and this guy does it with ease, its far easier to stop people who have the ball than create things when you have it and for that reason I'd have given it Henry, his world cup was okay I thought although I'd have given it him on what he did mainly in the premiership last season, not only does he score 30 plus goals a season he creates 20 odd as well.
Cannavaro deserves a mention but for my money Henry should have one hands down. Canavaro ffs 1 good world cup & he class me hole.
Ya hes a good defender one of the best but the award sould go to somebody thas consistent week in week out. Shut up Shelbourne! you obviously didn't watch any Italy games! Canavaro ffs 1 good world cup & he class me hole.
Read Above Enzo:) Class player, but as Fred above too... think this award should be redefined to creative players. Henry would sell tickets to a game if he was on the squad list... Cannavaro would not. Now a game where they play each other..?
Henry would have been the better choice... the right choice.
yh i kno henry should hav bt think henry can get another chance bt cannavaro wont get another chance. Plus why does a strker or midfielder always have to win? Sorry about that Shel get very defensive when it comes to Italy in football!

Discuss. Watched Cannavaro last night wih Real and he made Titus Bramble look good. Don't know why he moved to Spain could of at least stayed in Italy.
Poor fool. henry and buffon are by far the best player in the world never mind europ oh cmon...cannavaro lead both italy and real madrid to where they are now..buffon is a great keeper but hes out of the spotlight in serie B...
as for henry also a great player but didnt did that well in the world cup and got injured for a while...
althoug i think figo is the best in the world x) i think that cannavaro deserves this award Cannavaro played 1 good World Cup, and then he become the world best player.

No matter what i try to do, I will not ever forget last Real M. - Barca match where Leo Messi like played with Cannavaro.. Messi went so fast, not even Cannavaro could follow his legs. He dribbled Cannavaro, like twice.. Really nice, but no good defender should be able to get played with like Messi did to him! ;) Sorry Nemesis, but I think your dim. Italy have for a long time, and probably alway will be a class act, and Cannavaro didnt 'lead them there'.
Real Madrid are bank-rolled by the Spanish Government, and were much more successful BEFORE Cannavaro came onboard (for the money).
A great player is great player where ever he plays domestic-wise, and yeah Buffon is good, but not comparible with the greatest at the moment.
Henry? You only need to look at Arsenals performances at the start of the season (and every season come to think of it) without him compared with now to know how great he is.
Lampard is a selfish moron in my opinion, he does what Gerrard does, but half as effectively, and less enthusiastically.

I'd like to have said Gattuso myself as he is my kinda of player, but he has been off the boil for a long while. Gotta say Ronaldinho is the best in the world, though it pains me. The guy is summut else technically. Frank Lampard best midfielder? Great joke. lol at people saying Cannavaro led Real to where they are now. Real are still as lame as they have been for the last 4 seasons.
My candidate for best player last season is Zidane. Headbutt aside (Even though he owned that lil p***) he was the best player in the world cup and played well for real.
Italy dive in last minute vs Australia won them the world cup, not Fabio's leadership. Cannavaro is a joke right now. Kaka' or C. Ronaldo imho should win the award.. HENRY ALL THE WAY

Should of been Ronaldo taking that award. But nevertheless, Fabio is a great player but just not good enough for this award.
